Liposuction

LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction or body sculpting is performed for patients to actually remove unwanted localized deposits of fat cells from the body and provide a more pleasing profile.

You have dieted and exercised and there are still stubborn areas of fat that will not go away. So you choose liposuction to look better in your clothes. While liposuction is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle including exercise, proper diet and bio identical  hormones, it can make you look and feel better.

What is Liposuction?

The procedure is meant for body contouring. It is not a treatment for obesity. A suction tube is inserted through a tiny incision placed in an inconspicuous location on the skin. Tumescent solution is added to the tissue that is targeted to decrease bleeding, give anesthesia and expedite the fat removal.  With a high pressure vacuum, fat cells are extracted through a suction tube. The result is a sculpting of bulging areas into more attractive contours in both females and males.

What is the Tumescent Liposuction Technique?

With the Tumescent Technique, large volumes of saline solution, local anesthesia and adrenaline are infused into the fatty area being treated to make the procedure safer and more effective. This enables our physician to maneuver a small instrument called a cannula connected to a vacuum machine, superficially under the skin. The cannula is inserted into the fatty tissue through tiny incisions. Your surgeon moves it around under your skin and suctions away the unwanted fatty deposits to reveal more attractive contours. Another early technique involves removing fat without any solution in the tissue. It is considered quite dangerous and, hopefully, is not being utilized anymore. Another popular technique is the “wet technique” requiring general anesthesia to expedite your)

she she called. She and all the the liposuction.

Who are the best candidates for Liposuction?

The best candidates for body sculpting:

  • Have firm, elastic skin and are in good health.
  • Have tried to eliminate bulges through diet, exercise and weight loss.
  • Have distinct areas of localized fat that are disproportionate to the rest of their bodies.
  • Have realistic expectations and are only slightly too moderately overweight.
  • Understand that liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss.

What areas can be treated by Liposuction?

The most frequent areas treated by liposuction in men are the abdomen, waist, “love handles,” thighs, breasts, under the chin, arms, and even the calves and ankles “. In women, their desired correction may be in areas that include all the belly, the waste, hips, thighs, buttocks, knees, lower leg, cheeks, and double chins. Some women elect to have their fat recycled through lipo-augmentation. Men more often have liposuction of the abdomen waist, hips and breasts (gynecomastia).

How are the benefits of Liposuction measured?

Cosmetically speaking, successful liposuction is measured in inches and shape rather than pounds. The weight removed is not as important as the improvement in your body’s contour. Most important is our patient’s improved self-image and self-acceptance.

Is the fat removal from Liposuction permanent?

Yes! It seems that after puberty we do not create new fat cells. When you gain weight, you expand the fat cells that you have. Should you gain weight after liposuction, it goes to the fat cells that remain in your body. You might be surprised when you develop a hump on your back or larger breasts. The localized fatty deposits that existed prior to liposuction can no longer balloon up out of proportion to the surrounding areas.

Will I need a second Liposuction procedure?

Most likely, one procedure will be sufficient. However, some patients require a fine-tuning
procedure at a future date or additional liposuction if they gain weight as not all of the cells in a particular area are removed.

Will Liposuction get rid of cellulite?

Liposuction is not a treatment for cellulite, although many patients do notice an improvement in the appearance of cellulite after the fat cells are removed.

How will my skin look after Liposuction surgery?

After liposuction, dimples, ripples and stretch marks remain unchanged. Your new figure will be similar to what you would expect if you could lose an equal amount of localized fat through diet and exercise alone. The use of smaller cannulas allows the fibrous connections between your skin and underlying body to remain. These connections will contract over time. As a result, excessive skin folds are so rare that many patients avoid the necessity for surgical skin excision by having excellent results with liposuction alone.

What will my recovery after Liposuction be like?

You will go home after the procedure and rest for a few hours, after which you may gradually increase your activity as tolerated. Walking is encouraged particularly as it helps remove the fluids that drain after liposuction.  After several days you may resume normal activities other than strenuous exercise for three weeks. You should wear a snug elastic dressing, girdle, or body stocking over the treated area to aid healing for at least 3 weeks.

Buttocks Enlargement

For years many women have been unhappy with the size, shape or flabby appearance of their buttocks. Many feel that their jeans just don’t fit right, they don’t look good in a bathing suit or their buttocks are disproportionate to the rest of their body.

What is Buttock Augmentation?

Dr. Dryden performs Buttock Augmentation also known as Brazilian Butt lift as an enhancement procedure to improve the overall look, shape and size of the buttocks. Enlargement of the buttocks is traditionally accomplished with liposuction elsewhere and fat transplantation to the buttocks, while some surgeons may choose to offer buttock implants.

Buttock Augmentation with that augmentation is becoming one of our most popular cosmetic procedures. It has both men and women thinking of lifting, sculpting or augmenting their buttocks into a more desirable shape.

How long is the procedure?

Buttock Augmentation surgery usually takes approximately 2 hours depending upon the patient’s size and desires.

The procedure

The most frequent procedure used to improve the overall look, shape and size of the buttocks is fat transplantation. It is usually referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift. Our surgeon will determine the areas from which to harvest the fat cells and perform liposuction first although the abdomen is the usual source. Even though the abdomen is generally used for the buttocks augmentation, the patient may choose to include other areas such as the hips, back or thighs as donor areas. Next the fat cells that have been removed are processed with a new, more efficient device developed in Tucson. Your fat is separated from the fluid and then placed into your buttocks at different depths and sites to achieve the results you desire. Oftentimes our surgeon will fine tune your new look with additional lipo-sculpting techniques. Not only do patients achieve a “perkier butt,” another bonus is the areas of liposuction will often be leaner and more proportional to the rest of your body.

If you or your surgeon agrees, implants may be another option for some patients, but Dr. Dryden does not us buttocks implants and would refer you elsewhere. The implants, usually made of silicone, are surgically inserted into each buttock to enhance the shape and size. This option is usually selected for thin patients when desired results cannot be achieved with fat injections alone and frequently are associated with significant negative changes. Our surgeon will recommend the appropriate procedure to achieve the attractive, well defined buttock results that you desire.

Who are the best candidates for a Buttock Augmentation?

The best candidates for a Buttock Augmentation:

  • Desire a more attractive backside
  • Have had moderate weight loss and want to restore their shape
  • Have good physical health
  • Are over 18 years old
  • Are psychologically sound
  • Have realistic expectations of their outcome
  • Have adequate fat to be used with the augmentation

What will my recovery be like?

After your Buttock Augmentation surgery, most patients experience some swelling and soreness or pain that can be controlled with oral medication. Patients may be required to avoid sitting on the buttocks for several days to a week depending on the extent of surgery. A donut cushion or a pad under the thighs is used for sitting. A compression garment must be worn for 3 weeks to enhance the results. Cold compresses can be used to further reduce swelling and ease discomfort. Patients may return to work in a few days or in up to two weeks depending on the type of their employment and the extent of the surgery. After approximately three weeks patients feel back to normal and may resume exercise.  As with all surgical procedures it’s important to follow the recovery instructions for optimum healing and results.

Labiaplasty & Vaginoplasty

As Labiaplasty and other types of vaginal rejuvenation and vaginal reconstruction become more common, women no longer have to be embarrassed when seeking labia improvement. For years women had few alternatives to relieve pain, to enhance sexual satisfaction or to improve the appearance of their labia. Most often, Labiaplasty is performed for aesthetic reasons and occasionally for medical reasons. For example, large labia minora may catch in one’s clothing and cause pain, may protrude too much or have an unattractive appearance or color. The labia minora (inner lips) may be reduced, and the labia majora (outer lips) may need enlarging particularly as one ages. Labiaplasty is performed seeking to improve the comfort and appearance of the labia.

Today, women no longer have to suffer with vaginal looseness that occurs with childbirth or aging. The stigma associated with vaginal surgery for vaginal tightening or to enhance sexual pleasure for the patient or her partner is gone. Women now actively seek to improve their vagina including stretched muscles and supporting tissues to restore their youthful tightness.

What is Labiaplasty and what is a Vaginoplasty?

Labiaplasty is performed to reduce the inner lips of the vulva (labia minora) with symmetry and with the most natural results as possible. The reduction of the labia minora may improve physical comfort, appearance and the sexuality of the patient. If the labia majora (outer lips) have become “deflated,” augmentation with fat can improves the appearance.
Some women also desire a tighter vagina, and a vaginoplasty is done on the backside of the vagina to tighten the muscles.

How are Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty performed?

Labiaplasty and vaginoplasty are formed as an out-patient procedure, and it takes approximately 1-2 hours depending upon whether one or both procedures are being performed. Both procedures are performed under local or general anesthesia. Sexual intercourse or the use of tampons is not recommended for 6 weeks. Discomfort is surprisingly very minimal and it presents alleviated with nonnarcotic medications. The excess tissue is removed during a labiaplasty, and the vaginoplasty procedure involves tightening of the vagina with a procedure inside the vagina.

What is Vaginoplasty?

Vaginal rejuvenation surgery, or Vaginoplasty, is performed by reconstructing and tightening the vagina to a smaller, more normal size just inside the opening. Vaginoplasty is specialized surgery to tighten the vaginal walls and reinforce the vaginal support of muscles and connective tissues.

How is Vaginoplasty performed?

Dr. Dryden performs Vaginoplasty with the patient under general anesthesia, conscious sedation or local anesthesia. The length of the procedure is typically 1 – 2 hours. Healing usually takes approximately 6 weeks. Patients may choose to combine Vaginoplasty with Labiaplasty for sexual enhancement and to relieve any discomfort and self-consciousness they may have had in the past.

“Tummy Tuck,” or Abdominoplasty

ABDOMINOPLASTY (TUMMY TUCK)

A “Tummy Tuck”, or abdominoplasty, is performed to flatten the protruding abdomen removing excess fatty tissue, stretch marks and skin and by tightening the muscles in the abdominal wall If they are pulled apart. This surgical procedure is a common one and can benefit women and men who are bothered by a protruding abdomen.

A protuberant abdomen can be a cause of distress for men and women alike. It can be the result of excess fat, weak abdominal muscles, pregnancy, or loose skin that has been over-stretched and no longer responds to diet and exercise. For those who have experienced a massive weight loss, their only alternative to loose overhanging skin is surgery.

Patients whose weight has been stabilized in their weight loss program or who feel they are at their ideal weight are the best candidates for a tummy tuck. Many patients combine their tummy tuck with other cosmetic procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation or breast reduction surgery.

Could you benefit from a Tummy Tuck?

Keep in mind that while a tummy tuck will enhance your figure and your self-confidence, it’s not likely to change your life or the way people treat you.

During your private consultation with our physician, you should explain your goals and expectations of the surgery for a traditional tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck. Our surgeon will assess the nature of your abdomen, your expectations, and explain the probable outcome of your procedure.

You will be shown several before and after treatment photographs of patients having similar abdomens, and our surgeon will explain the treatment and the results you can expect to receive. Before and after photographs may be taken of your abdomen to document your improvement.

Your Tummy Tuck procedure

There are three basic techniques used to flatten a protuberant abdomen. The best technique for you will depend largely on your goals and your specific problem. Liposuction alone can produce a thin abdominal wall for some, and liposuction may tighten the skin much more than you would ever expect. If your laxity and excess skin is below your navel, a mini tummy tuck may be right for you. For those with severe laxity of their abdominal muscle or excessive skin, a full tummy tuck may be their only solution.

A tummy tuck is usually performed on an out-patient basis usually under general anesthesia with the patient asleep or with local anesthesia with sedation depending upon the patient.

A full tummy tuck involves an incision around the belly button and another incision that runs from hip to hip. Your entire abdominal wall is tightened with permanent sutures, and the excess skin and fat is removed.

mini tummy tuck is usually performed in conjunction with liposuction of the upper abdomen and the flank areas if there is excess fat in these areas. With a mini tummy tuck, a smaller incision is made in your bikini area and no incision is made around your belly button. Our surgeon will remove your excess skin and fat through this incision. Permanent sutures may also be placed through this incision to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall.

Regardless of which procedure you have, your incisions are closed with small sutures or staples. Small drains may also be inserted to eliminate fluid buildup. Snug elastic bandages are then applied to the area.

What will my recovery from a Tummy Tuck be like?

After your tummy tuck, bed rest and walking are recommended for the first day. Most patients experience some numbness in the area of their abdomen, which may last as long as a year. Any pain or discomfort that follows surgery can be controlled with oral nonnarcotic medication. If drains are used, they may remain in place for 3 – 7 days or until discharge of fluids decreases, although more and more procedures are being done without drains.  Sutures or staples will be removed in 1 – 2 weeks; however, your bandages may remain a little longer. A special abdominal support garment is often necessary for several weeks. There will be some scarring that will fade significantly over time. During your recovery, you must refrain from any strenuous activity or lifting. You must not plan on having any more pregnancies after a tummy tuck either. Most patients are back to work within 1 – 3 weeks, depending on the degree of surgery. Our surgeon will decide when you can resume normal activities.

Results can be quite dramatic, and patients love their slimmer, trimmer figures and flatter abdomens!
